Riverainois (Riverainois [ʁivʁenwa] or langage Riverainois [lɑ̃ɡaʒ ʁivʁenɛz] ) is a Romance language of the Indo-European family. It anteceded from the Vulgar Latin (the common tongue) of the Roman Empire,as what all the rest of Romance languages did. Riverainois developed from Gallo-Romance, the Latin spoken in Gaul, and more specifically in Northern France. Its closest relatives are other Langues d'oïl/Gallo-Romance languages—languages historically spoken in Northern France and some parts of central France. Riverainois was also influenced by native Goidelic language (Gaelic languages) and other Celtic languages.
