Polari is a language used by British homosexuals during the time when homosexuality was illegal. It dates back to at least the 19th century but could go as far back as the 16th century. It was also used by some actors, circus and fairground showmen, professional wrestlers, merchant navy sailors, criminals and prostitutes.
